Guidelines
We're practicing, not perfect. These rules keep this a place people are willing to be honest.
Be kind and specific
Say what you saw and what you'd do differently. Assume the person you're replying to is working hard.
Protect patients
Nothing that could identify a patient, even to someone who was there. Before you post, run this list.
- No names, initials, or nicknames.
- No dates more specific than a month or season.
- No exact ages beyond a decade, and no rare details that make a case recognizable.
- No facility, unit, or location details that narrow it down.
- Change or leave out anything unusual: rare diagnoses, famous people, local news.
- No images, screenshots, chart text, or imaging unless fully de-identified.
- If someone who was there could recognize the case, rewrite it as a composite or leave it out.
- When you're unsure, leave it out.
Critique systems, not people
Name the problem in the process, the schedule, or the idea. Don't aim it at a colleague, an employer, or another profession.
Venting is welcome
Debrief is for getting something off your chest. It isn't a place to document or argue a specific event.
How moderation works
Pearls are checked for accuracy before they go live. Reflections are checked for patient details and tone. Moderators may edit or remove anything that breaks these guidelines.
